The government of the Republic of Panama announced the selection of the Bank of China to issue “Panda Bond” up to the sum of 500 millions.
The announcement was made by President Juan Carlos Varela, who recognizes the Bank of China as one of the four largest commercial banks in that country and the fifth largest one in the world for capital value.
The Minister of Economy and Finance indicated that Panama’s participation in the Chinese market will be made to take advantage of the favorable conditions achieved and to attract investors.
The president Varela and Bank of China Governor, Siqing Chen, considered the possibility of expanding the operations of the Bank of Panama through a regional headquarters, taking advantage of the platform offered by the country for the commercial exchange between Asia and Latin America.
